Presentation Materials

Last week I participated in the ACP Portfolio Review. It was a rewarding experience, if not monetarily or getting-a-show-wise, I learned a lot (more on that when I get to writing it down). One of my reviewers was Jorg Colberg, who writes the Conscientious blog. He gave good advice, I enjoyed my time with him, though I'm not positive he was real keen on what I showed him.

As part of my packet, I had cards printed (that looked awesome) at overnightprints.com. I had also ordered tri-fold brochures from them, but there was a delay in printing. I ended up canceling that order, going to Kinko's and having double sided color copies made from the template I'd prepared for the professional printing. I cut and folded them myself. They looked good, but obviously home made with that cheap Kinko's paper.

Today Colberg wrote about presentation materials, his impression, and their importance. My advice: Make sure you order everything you want WELL AHEAD of when you'll need 'em. It's not the end of the world, but I sure would have preferred a more professional look to the one thing that I handed the reviewers to take away.
